Anthony Adverse
First screened in September 2006 / Most recently screened in July 2015
Director: Mervyn LeRoy. Cast: Fredric March, Claude Rains, Olivia de Havilland, Edmund Gwenn, Donald Woods, Gale Sondergaard, Henry O'Neill, Anita Louise, Louis Hayward, Akim Tamiroff, Steffi Duna, Ralph Morgan, Billy Mauch. Screenplay: Sheridan Gibney (based on the novel by Hervey Allen).

Twitter Capsule: Flashes of lustrous photography, camp entertainment, or bold narrative turns, but mostly just overproduced tedium.

VOR:   Despite its surprising embrace by the Academy, noted as odd even at the time, this excessive production hasn't much to distinguish or recommend it. Watch Robin Hood instead.
