The Intervention
First screened in July 2016
Director: Clea DuVall. Cast: Melanie Lynskey, Cobie Smulders, Vincent Piazza, Clea DuVall, Natasha Lyonne, Jason Ritter, Ben Schwartz, Alia Shawkat, Skylar Bernon, Kira Pozehl. Screenplay: Clea DuVall.

Twitter Capsule: Frequently hilarious ensemble comedy. At its core are Lynskey's displaced sorrow and Smulders' undeniable anger.

Second Capsule: The Intervention reminded me of The Anniversary Party: two merry-sad-serious comedies built by actor-directors who really know their casts.

VOR:   Overtly structured to give pleasures to its audiences and its makers, not to push the genre or the medium. Cool bait-and-switch, though, about how the movie's fundamentally about.
