Night Must Fall (1937)
First screened in August 1999 / Most recently screened in December 2015
Director: Richard Thorpe. Cast: Robert Montgomery, Rosalind Russell, May Whitty, Alan Marshall, Matthew Boulton, Merle Tottenham, Kathleen Harrison, Eily Malyon, Winifred Harris. Screenplay: John Van Druten (based on the play by Emlyn Williams).

Twitter Capsule: You may pine for a 90-minute version but the extended mood of menace, evident guilt, and sexual arousal intrigues.

VOR:   In some senses a predictable, vaguely pandering thriller relying on conventions of its era. In other respects, thematically risky, daringly paced, and psychologically adventurous.
