The Yearling
First screened in April 2010
Director: Clarence Brown. Cast: Claude Jarman, Jr., Gregory Peck, Jane Wyman, Donn Gift, Jeff York, Forrest Tucker, Chill Wills, Clem Bevans, Margaret Wycherly, Henry Travers, Joan Wells, Houseley Stevenson. Screenplay: Paul Osborn (based on the novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings).

Twitter Capsule: Much richer characterizations and tougher in tone than I expected, while still being sun-dappled and family-friendly.

VOR:   Jarman's performance is in the annals of great turns by kids. Technicolor really memorable. Among best chlidren's-lit adaptations, too, without stinting on adults.
